Hotel Gelsomino Blu stands just off Via Camerelle, a five-minute stroll from the Piazzetta, with a quiet garden of jasmine, lemon and plumbago behind a plain blue door. It opened in 1962 as a family pensione and has been refined, never overhauled: white walls, blue-and-ochre majolica, cool stone floors and light that changes every hour.
There are twenty-seven rooms and suites, most with a terrace or balcony. The larger categories look over the Faraglioni and the Bay of Naples, and the top-floor penthouse has a private plunge pool. Beds are dressed in Italian linen, bathrooms are marble, and every room has a small fridge stocked with island lemon soda.
The rooftop pool and sun terrace are the social heart of the hotel, with a bar serving spritz and lemon granita and, at night, candlelit tables. Downstairs the spa has a small hammam, two treatment rooms and a heated indoor pool. The restaurant serves a short menu of fish, vegetables and Capri lemon desserts.
The team handles everything: ferries and porters, boats to the Blue Grotto, a table at the right beach club, reservations for the Certosa and Villa Jovis. If you stay in late October, the hotel is quiet and the bar is yours.

Great beds, quiet rooms and a charming rooftop. The spa is lovely but small and sometimes full, so book early. Breakfast eggs were excellent and the staff remembered our coffee order.

Our Classic Garden Room was gorgeous. A late-night party near the lane kept us awake on Saturday, but staff offered earplugs and a quieter room the next day. Service was exemplary.

Our room faced a service courtyard and the Wi-Fi dropped constantly. The staff were polite but changed us only after a complaint. The hotel is beautiful elsewhere, but our room did not match the photos.

The room and pool are superb. Check-in took 40 minutes because of a ferry delay and our room was not ready until 17:30. The staff apologised and offered a drink, but it dampened day one.

The spa is open to hotel guests and, by appointment, to a small number of day guests on weekdays.
All rooms have air conditioning. Deluxe Sea View rooms and above face the bay; Classic Garden rooms look onto the jasmine garden.
The rooftop pool is heated from April to October. The indoor spa pool is heated all year.
