Casa Marinara belongs to a family of sailors, and it shows. The ceilings are low and well planned, the cupboards have brass latches, and there is a rope handrail on the stairs. It is a small apartment, but nothing in it is wasted, and every shelf holds something worth looking at: charts, shells, a ship in a bottle that Lucia’s grandfather finished in 1968.
The bedroom has a king bed made up in striped cotton and a cupboard that smells of cedar. The living room has a sofa bed for two more guests, a table that unfolds for four and a kitchen that is better stocked than it looks: oven, induction hob, proper knives, a stovetop espresso pot and a set of blue-glazed plates.
The terrace is only just big enough for two chairs and a table, and it faces the sea. Geraniums in tin cans, a line for drying swimsuits, a view along Marina Grande to the point. You will eat breakfast here every day.
Marina Grande is Amalfi’s fishermen’s beach, a ten-minute walk from the cathedral, with fish restaurants on the sand and a lido that rents loungers. The apartment is on a stepped lane, about 40 steps from the road. Parking is the usual puzzle; we will help you solve it.

About 40 steps from the nearest road. There is no lift. We can arrange a porter for €15.
Public garages in Amalfi cost €35–50 per day. The nearest is at Piazza Flavio Gioia, 10 minutes' walk. We recommend leaving the car at home.
Yes: two in the bedroom and two on the sofa bed. It is cosy; for a family with teens, a second apartment in Amalfi may suit better.

Every detail has been thought about. The ship in the bottle is a lovely touch. We ate breakfast on the terrace every day and swam at Marina Grande before the crowds. Lucia met us at the lane and handed us the keys with a hug.

Very quiet, exactly what we wanted after the busy streets. Marina Grande beach is two minutes away. The hosts left us a handwritten guide to restaurants and a map of the lanes.
