Booking a stay on Getaway takes a few minutes and a few clicks. Here is what happens at each step, and what you can do if you would rather ask a person.
1. Search
Choose a destination, your dates and the number of guests. Results show the real price for your nights from rooms that are actually free, and the map shows price pins so you can see where the good-value places hide. Heart the ones you like and use compare to line up to four.
2. Choose a room and a rate
On a stay page, the rooms and rates for your dates sit under the gallery. Each rate states what it includes (breakfast or not), when you can cancel and what you pay now. Add extras such as an airport transfer or a late check-out before you reserve.
3. Pay now, or part now
Checkout runs through WooCommerce and accepts cards via Stripe, plus wallets where available. Rates with a deposit take 30% now and the balance later. We hold your room for 30 minutes while you pay, so nobody books it from under you.
4. Get your confirmation
You receive an email with your reference, the address and map link, check-in and check-out times, the host’s phone number, the cancellation terms and a calendar file. Your trip is also in My trips.
5. Arrive
Three days before you arrive we send a reminder with directions. Tell the host your arrival time at checkout and they will meet you or leave a key box code. If a ferry is cancelled, ring the host and they will adjust.
6. Review
After check-out you can rate the stay and write a review. Only guests who stayed can review, and hosts can reply in public.
Questions we hear most
Why book direct on Getaway instead of a big travel site?
Because the host and the room are the same, minus the middleman. We add no booking fee, show the full price with taxes before you pay, and your questions go straight to the person who runs the stay. Availability comes from the property’s own calendar, so a room you can book is a room that is free.
Can I cancel, and will I get my money back?
Every rate shows its cancellation terms before you pay. Flexible rates refund in full up to three days before check-in, moderate rates up to seven days (half back until three days), strict rates up to 30 days. Non-refundable rates cost about 10% less and are not refunded. Cancel from My trips and you see the refund amount before you confirm.
Do I have to pay everything when I book?
Not always. Many stays offer a deposit: pay 30% now and the balance later, at the property or before arrival, as the rate states. The price breakdown always lists what you pay now and what you pay later, so nothing is left to guess.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard and American Express through Stripe, plus wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay where your device supports them. Card payments use 3-D Secure when your bank asks for it, and card numbers never touch our servers. Some stays also offer pay at the property.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in usually opens at 15:00 and check-out is by 11:00, but each stay lists its own times. Arriving late is fine if you tell the host: there is an arrival-time field at checkout, and most hosts will wait or arrange a key box. Many will also look after your bags before and after your stay.
Are children welcome?
Mostly yes, and each stay states its policy. Children up to 12 are priced as children (often free in an existing bed), a cot can be added as an extra on many stays, and the few adults-only hotels are marked so you can filter them out. If you travel with toddlers, ask the host about steps, pool fences and the walk from the car park.
Can I bring my dog?
Many stays are pet-friendly, some by request. Use the Pets filter in search, read the policy on the stay page and message the host before you book. Fees, size limits and where dogs may go (pool terraces, restaurants) vary from one property to the next.
Is there a tourist tax, and is it in the price?
Italian towns charge a visitor tax. On Getaway it is added to the price breakdown automatically (currently €2.50 per guest per night, up to seven nights) together with VAT where it applies, so the total you see at checkout is the total you pay.
