The bottom of the table and what happens next

A club at the bottom of the differential table is rarely one player away. It is usually a line of scrimmage away on both sides of the ball, and that takes two drafts rather than one signing.

Coaches talk about complementary football until it sounds like a slogan. It stops sounding like one when a defence gets off the field on third down and hands the offence the ball at the far forty three times in a half.

The clubs immediately above them are not much better placed, and between them they hold the top of the board going into the 2026 draft.

The one thing history is clear about: the quickest turnarounds belong to the clubs that fixed the trenches first and went shopping for skill positions second.
