About this stay
Casetta Fico d’India clings to the hill above Sant’Angelo, the little village on a rocky peninsula at Ischia’s southern tip where cars are not allowed. A footpath winds down to the harbour in ten minutes; coming back up you earn your evening glass of wine. The cottages sit among prickly pears, fig trees and rosemary, and are named after the cacti that fill the terraces.
The Casetta is a one-bedroom stone cottage for two or three, with a vaulted ceiling, a kitchenette and a terrace that looks across the bay to the Maronti beach. Casa Fichi, next door, has two bedrooms, a larger kitchen and a covered terrace with a long table. Both are cool in summer and warm in winter, with thick walls and a wood stove.
Sant’Angelo has a handful of fish restaurants, a tiny beach, a thermal spring that heats the water on the south side of the isthmus, and boats that go to the Maronti beach and to Ischia Porto. The famous Cavascura hot springs and Fumarole beach are a short walk along the coast.
Because the lane is steep, we recommend light luggage; a local porter will carry bags from the car park at the top. Dogs are welcome. Breakfast is not served, but the bakery at the foot of the hill opens at seven.

Kein Auto, kein Lärm, nur Zikaden und Meerblick. Die Casetta ist klein und perfekt, die Terrasse war unser Wohnzimmer. Der Spaziergang zum Hafen ist ein Genuss.

The quietest place of our trip
Everything was clean and thoughtful, from the pans to the pillows. Sunsets from the terrace were spectacular. We hiked to Cavascura and returned to cold wine in the fridge.

Beautiful but hard to reach
The cottage is lovely and the views are great. Getting luggage down the hill was harder than we expected and the Wi-Fi dropped in the evenings. The host was kind and refunded the porter.

Can I drive to the cottage?
No. Cars stay at the car park at the top of the lane; the last 400 m are on foot. A porter can carry your luggage.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes for children who can manage steps. The terraces have walls but are not child-proof.
Is there a beach?
Sant’Angelo’s tiny beach is a ten-minute walk, and the long Maronti sand is a water-taxi ride or an 18-minute stroll.
Are there shops nearby?
A small bakery and grocery are at the foot of the hill; the nearest supermarket is a 15-minute bus ride.

Not in the price, but a welcome grocery package can be added, and the bakery opens at seven.
