Atrani is the smallest town in Italy, a single piazza and a staircase of houses tumbling to a beach, and Casa Maiolica sits on the piazza itself. From the windows you see the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, a fountain that doubles as a meeting place and old men playing cards at the café beneath. By night the lights are low and the only sound is the sea.
The apartments are decorated with ceramics from nearby Vietri, hand-painted tiles on floors and kitchen walls, blue shutters and linen the colour of the sea. Each is small, practical and cheerful: one bedroom or a studio, a kitchen with a two-ring hob, a good fan and air-conditioning, and a window you will want to lean out of.
The beach is a minute away, a small dark-sand cove between two rocks. A tunnel and a short footpath lead to Amalfi in ten minutes; the buses stop at the village entrance. The 1,000-step staircase to Ravello leaves from the back of the village for those who like a challenge.
Marina and Lucia, our hosts, live a floor below, and have run the apartments for 15 years. They will leave a bottle of Furore white, a map of the best walks and a list of the fish restaurants they actually eat in.

A little jewel in the middle of the smallest town in Italy. We woke to church bells, drank coffee on the balcony and swam before breakfast. Marina and Lucia made us feel like cousins, and the ceramic details are lovely.

Siobhan, thank you! Lucia says the next coffee is on her.

We return every year. The hosts treat us like family, the beach has not changed, and the apartment keeps improving: new mattresses and a nicer kitchen this year. Perfect.

The studio is small and the bathroom very compact, but everything is well thought out and the location is unbeatable. We would book the one-bedroom next time.

No tourists in white linen, only locals playing cards under our window. The kitchen has what you need and the hosts recommended a trattoria with the best fried anchovies of our lives. The bed was on the soft side for us.

Charming, clean and well located. We loved the tile floor and the blue shutters, and we climbed the stairs to Ravello one morning. Superb value for the Amalfi Coast.

We loved the village but the stairs with a heavy suitcase were hard and our room faced the piazza with the music until late. The hosts were helpful and gave us earplugs.

Zofia, thank you for the honest feedback. We now give a luggage-help option at check-in and advise light sleepers on the quieter rooms.

Send another messageThe piazza is flat; the apartments are on the first to third floors with no lift (up to 60 steps).
Summer evenings can be lively until about 23:30. The apartments have double glazing and quiet-hour rules, and the village is quiet by midnight.
Ten minutes on foot through the tunnel and along the seafront path, or 3 minutes by bus.
Yes. Vietri ceramists run two-hour workshops in Atrani at €50 per guest.
