We read everything that reaches us, and we answer as much of it as we can. Whether you are correcting a detail in a story, offering a document, or arguing that our conclusion was wrong, the fastest route is a short note that says what it is about in the first line.
Newsroom
General editorial enquiries, corrections and letters to the editor go to the newsroom desk, which is staffed on weekdays between 09:00 and 18:00 Central European Time. Corrections are the priority queue: if you can point to a specific sentence and explain what is wrong with it, we will look at it the same day. Pitches from freelance reporters are welcome and should include one paragraph on the story, one on why now, and links to two pieces you are proud of.
Confidential tips
If you are sharing something sensitive, do not use your employer’s laptop, network or accounts. We accept encrypted messages and post sent to our Berlin office, and we can arrange an in-person conversation if that is safer for you. We do not log IP addresses on our tip line, we do not ask for your identity unless the story requires it, and we will never publish a detail that could identify a source without agreeing it with them first.
Everything else
Questions about a membership, a missing issue or a payment go to the subscriptions desk, and we aim to reply within two working days. Signal does not run sponsored content or accept advertising from companies in our coverage areas, so commercial approaches of that kind will be declined politely and quickly. Reprint and syndication requests should say where the piece will run and in what language.
