370 points are still on the table

Ten Grands Prix and ten sprints remain. That is 250 plus 120 — 370 points — against a 40-point lead.

Martin’s advantage over Marc Marquez is worth a little under two Grand Prix wins. His advantage over fifth place is 56 points, which is worth rather less than three.

The uncomfortable number for the leader is that Marquez has out-scored him on Saturdays four sprints to three, and has three Grand Prix wins to Martin’s one. If the season turns into a straight fight for wins rather than a fight for points, the lead is thinner than it looks.
