The event that was supposed to be held in Porto, Portugal will still take place but it will be 100% online. The reason for this decision as you can suppose is the situation with the virus pandemic.

The good news is that the registration is open and you can get your WCEU ticket for free right now.

The event will kick off with Contributor Day on the 4th of June and then proceed with 2 days of presentations and workshops. All of it will be broadcasted on a livestream. Here is the official schedule.

WCEU is an annual WordPress gathering that has been going on strong for 8+ years. Usually the events are held in big and beautiful venues and are sold out routinely. People from all over Europe flock to see fellow WordPress enthusiasts from every corner of the planet. WCEU is one of the biggest WordPress events in the world. Last year it was held in Berlin, Germany and it was awesome.

For those of you who haven’t been to a WordCamp before, here is how it looks like.

This will be the first time the event is held completely online. One could say that it defeats the main purpose this event is held in the first place. The in-person meetings and contacts that many of us value. Given that WCEU is one of the best organized WordPress gatherings in the world, it really is a pity. However, we have to do what we have to do, and this year that means enjoying a virtual event, instead of a real one. Hopefully, next summer we will be back to basics.

WordCamp EU 2020 is not the only WordPress event that is being moved 100% online. Almost all other WordPress meetings, conferences and WordCamps at the moment are being held online as well. Although there is the odd one here and there that take place in the real world.

If you are interested into attending the virtual event this year it is good to know that ticket are optional, but if you want to take part in Contributor Day, virtual networking and Q&A then you have to be registered.
