Atrani is the smallest town in Italy, a single piazza and a staircase of houses tumbling to a beach, and Casa Maiolica sits on the piazza itself. From the windows you see the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, a fountain that doubles as a meeting place and old men playing cards at the caf\u00e9 beneath. By night the lights are low and the only sound is the sea.<\/p>\n
The apartments are decorated with ceramics from nearby Vietri, hand-painted tiles on floors and kitchen walls, blue shutters and linen the colour of the sea. Each is small, practical and cheerful: one bedroom or a studio, a kitchen with a two-ring hob, a good fan and air-conditioning, and a window you will want to lean out of.<\/p>\n
The beach is a minute away, a small dark-sand cove between two rocks. A tunnel and a short footpath lead to Amalfi in ten minutes; the buses stop at the village entrance. The 1,000-step staircase to Ravello leaves from the back of the village for those who like a challenge.<\/p>\n
